Progress Report on Think Autism: the updated strategy for adults with autism in England

HM Government has released a report, titled Progress Report on Think Autism: the updated strategy for adults with autism in England. Think Autism followed the review of the 2010 autism strategy Fulfilling and Rewarding Lives, and was published in April 2014. It set out an updated programme of action to deliver the aims of the Autism Act. This report summarises progress since then and looks at how this work will go forward over the next 18 months with a number of refreshed actions building on progress made.

This report shows what has been achieved since the publication of ‘Think Autism’, which updated the cross-government autism strategy in April 2014. It also sets 31 new actions to continue to help local areas implement the autism strategy, and outlines work to help people with autism live as full and independent lives as possible, including:

  • Reforms to the Special Educational Needs and Disability system
  • Support with employment opportunities
  • Better awareness of autism within the criminal justice system
  • Use of information and data by local authorities and their partners

Pilot Schemes

For large organisations wanting to roll a programme out across the whole staff team, you may want to consider setting up a pilot programme prior to full implementation. We have worked with many customers on pilot projects to ensure programmes meet all required objectives and any change are made from lessons learned prior to full implementation.

The Care Act 2014, together with a range of regulations and statutory guidance, is the base upon which social care will develop over the next few decades. It enshrines the new statutory principle of individual wellbeing, the driving force behind the Act, and makes it the responsibility of local authorities to promote wellbeing when carrying out any of their care and support functions.
