Ongoing learning and development for adult social care guide
Skills for Care has recently released a piece of guidance for adult social care employers, which is the new 'Ongoing learning and development guide for adult social care'
The document provides useful knowledge for employers and managers, as it includes recommendations on the training courses that should be running as standard across their organisation, as well as the recommended minimum staff training requirements, and the frequency with which training in these subject areas should be regularly updated.
For example, the subject areas of Fire Safety, First Aid and Basic Life Support, Safe Handling of Medication, and Moving & Positioning Individuals and Loads are recommended to be refreshed annually, as are Positive Behavioural Support, and Safeguarding Adults and Children.
Skills for Care also recommends that several other course subjects should at minimum be refreshed every 3 years. However, the guide does acknowledge that staff's performance should be reviewed and competency assessments should be carried out annually in order to promote the best practice from care staff.
