Epilepsy Awareness and the Administration of Buccal Midazolam for Children’s and Young People’s Services

Course overview

The course will raise an awareness of epilepsy, what it is, the different types of epilepsy conditions and different types of seizures. The focus of this course is on children and young people with epilepsy and how this condition can impact on them and their families, from diagnosis to adulthood.
This course will cover the theory and practical aspects of administering Buccal Midazolam to a convulsing child or young adult in accordance with J.E.C. guidelines.
The learners will develop their understanding of the condition which will enable them to offer more effective support to the children and young people in their care.
This course is delivered using a range of methods and resources including:
Group discussions, small group activities, DVD clips and example seizure management protocols.
