Domestic Abuse and Safeguarding

Course overview

This course has been developed for Managers who are working with individuals, particularly those who are parents, children or families, and will examine safe practice when dealing with domestic violence and abuse. The course will examine specific risk factors associated with domestic abuse and equip learners with the confidence, knowledge and skills to use evidence based tools to address and manage risk in conjunction with the appropriate multi- agency risk assessment system. Learners will develop an understanding of how the Safeguarding Framework can be used to support an individual with Domestic Abuse.
This course is delivered using a range of methods and resources including:
PowerPoint, Flip chart to record and display feedback, video clips, group work, discussion and feedback.

Statistics and Prevalence
The cycle of abuse
Repeat incidents, barriers to leaving an abusive relationship and reporting incidents

The impact on physical health, mental health and the economy
Child protection procedures and the impact of abuse on children
Key risk indicators and dynamic risk assessment, important factors to consider
Honour Based Violence and Forced Marriage and DASH risk assessments
Safeguarding measures (including MARAC), appropriate intervention, how to respond, when and how to refer
The legal framework for information sharing, The Criminal Justice System and Civil Orders
Roles, responsibilities and strategies available for effective multi agency working through best practice
