This course has been developed to look at COSHH within the workplace and gain an understanding of how this knowledge should be applied within their roles in the Health and Social Care sector. This course will benefit all staff whose job roles involve them working with substances that can be hazardous to health.

Course content

Employer/employee responsibilities imposed by the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 2002
Definition and types of substances hazardous to health in the workplace
Health effects of hazardous substances and their causes
COSHH – The eight steps
Hazard information and packaging, (CHIP),- Protection by information (symbols and phrases)

Learning outcomes

Explain the importance of good waste management practice in the prevention of the spread of infection
Outline own responsibilities, and the responsibilities of others, relating to Health and Safety in a work setting
Describe procedures for responding to accidents and sudden illness
Know how to handle hazardous substances and materials
Carry out own responsibilities for Health and Safety
