Organisational in-house competence based training should be undertaken following this course.

Anatomy and physiology of skin
Definitions of a pressure ulcer
Changes caused by damage
Predisposing factors exacerbating risk and skin breakdown
External factors exacerbating risk and skin breakdown
Identifying those at risk and completing a risk assessment
Infection control precautions
Preventative measures
Safe handling techniques
Evidence-based practice

Explain when the risk assessment should be reviewed
Label a diagram of the skin and describe the functions
