This course has been developed to provide staff with the knowledge required in order for them to assess, plan and deliver appropriate personal care for the individuals they support. The session will cover personal care requirements and the associated risk management required in this area of practice.

Rationale for undertaking personal care (evidence-based practice)
Legislation, policies and guidelines for assessing risk
Assessment and management of risk when undertaking personal care
Assessment of personal hygiene needs
Culture of care and quality
Principles of skin care
Anatomy and physiology of the skin
Care of skin, hair, mouth, nails and feet and ears and nose
Education and training of staff in personal care
Evaluation and documentation of personal care
