What is a percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy?
The benefits of gastrostomy feeding
The basic anatomy and physiology of the digestive system in relation to the gastrostomy
The reasons for using gastrostomy tubes and who could have one
How to administer feeds and flushes safely
Care of an individual with a PEG tube (including mouth care)
Potential complications of using a PEG tube
Knowing when to ask for help
The legislation and agreed ways of working in relation to PEG feeding

Learning outcomes

State what PEG feeding is and why it is used 
Explain the importance of monitoring the health of an individual
State how to administer a feed safely
Describe how to carry out observations of the health of individuals 
Identify risks relating to PEG feeding
Record and report  observations
Describe how to respond to changes in an individual’s condition
