Course overview

The City and Guilds Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care and Children’s and Young People’s Settings has been developed to guide and assess the development of learners’ knowledge, understanding and skills in leadership and management practice. This qualification confirms competence in these areas and serves as the required qualification for registration and regulatory requirements in the sector where appropriate.
This qualification is aimed at learners who work in various health and social care and children and young people’s services in a variety of roles such as; Managers, Senior care/support workers, Team Leaders and Co-ordinators.

Course content

To achieve the full Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care and Children and Young People’s Settings, learners must achieve a minimum of 90 credits.

The mandatory units for this qualification include:
Use and develop systems that promote communication
Promote professional development
Champion equality, diversity and inclusion
Develop health and safety and risk management policies procedures and practices in health and social care or children and young people's settings
Work in partnership in health and social care or children and young people's settings
Understand child and young person's development
Lead practice that supports positive outcomes for child and young person development
Develop and implement policies and procedures to support the safeguarding of children and young people
Lead and manage group living for children
Lead and manage a team within a health and social care or children and young people's setting
Develop professional supervision practice in health and social care or children and young people's settings
Lead practice in promoting the well-being and resilience of children and young people
Undertake a research project within services for health and social care or children and young people

Learning outcomes

Learners can select from one of the following pathways:
Adults Residential Management
Adult Management
Adult Advanced Practice
Children and Young People’s Residential Management
Children and Young People’s Management
Children and Young People’s Advanced Practice

Assessment Criteria
Learners will be required to complete a workbook to evidence their knowledge for each unit.
Performance also runs through the qualification and therefore observation of practice will be carried out in the work place.
Learners will also need to produce self-reflective accounts, take part in professional discussions and provide a range of work products.
The workbooks will be assessed by a member of the Unique Training Solutions team and will go through the UTS quality assurance process.
All of the assessment criteria must be met for all of the units to achieve the full qualification.
