Course overview

This course has been developed for learners working with individuals who are currently or potentially at risk of using psychoactive substances, and will explore the social, psychological and health implications, as well as the risks associated with these substances. It is imperative that everyone who works with young people and adults has an understanding of psychoactive substances and the impact that they can have. This course will introduce interventions designed to assist users to make positive choices to assist them to live free, or reduce the risk of using psychoactive and other substance misuse.
This course is delivered using a range of methods and resources including:
Group discussions, practical exercises, a drugs box, beer goggles and leaflets on a variety of drugs and harm reduction information.
This course has been developed and mapped to:
The Human Medicines Regulations 2012 (Amended 2014)
The Psychoactive Substances Act 2016
And the following QCF unit:
Recognising Symptoms of Substance Misuse and Responding Appropriately
