Level 4 Diploma in Adult Care


Course overview

The City and Guilds Level 4 Diploma in Adult Care has been developed to allow learners to learn, develop and practice the skills required for employment and career progression in Adult Care. This qualification enables learners to progress into a role or a number of other qualifications for example; Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care. The Level 4 Diploma is accepted as the required qualification for registration and regulatory requirements in the sector where appropriate and demonstrates continuing professional development.
The Level 4 Award is aimed at learners wanting to work in Adult Social Care in a number of roles including; Community Care/Support Officers, Care Assessment Officers, Rehabilitation/Re-Ablement/Independence Support Workers and various Social Care positions.

Course content

To achieve the full Level 4 Diploma in Adult Care, learners must achieve a minimum of 70 credits overall. To do this they must achieve:
36 credits from the mandatory group of units which are:
Work in partnership in health and social care or children and young people’s settings
Advanced communication skills
Personal development in health, social care of children’s and young people’s settings
Equality and diversity in health, social care or children’s and young people’s settings
Facilitate person centred assessment to support wellbeing of individuals
Facilitate support planning to ensure positive outcomes for individuals and to support well being
Understand personalisation in care and support services
Health and safety in health and social care settings
Professional practice in health and social care for adults or children and young people
Safeguard children and young people who are present in the adult social care sector
Develop, maintain and use records and reports
Understand safeguarding and protection in health and social care settings
A minimum of 6 credits from the Optional Group A units
The units chosen from this Group will be based on what the learner’s current role is and what type of service provision they work in
A minimum of 28 credits from the Optional Group B units
The units chosen from this Group will be based on what the learner’s current role is and what type of service provision they work in
Competency and knowledge make up these units and the assessor will carry out observations of practice in the learner’s place of work

Learning outcomes

Learners will be required to complete a workbook to evidence their knowledge for each unit.
The workbooks will be assessed by a member of the Unique Training Solutions team and will go through the UTS quality assurance process.
All of the assessment criteria must be met for all of the units to achieve the full qualification.
