The Level 3 Certificate in Supporting Individuals with Learning Disabilities provides an opportunity to develop knowledge and skills around supporting individuals with a learning disability. It is aimed at learners who support individuals with a learning disability as part of their job role.

The units offered within this certificate mirror those offered within the learning disability pathway through the health and social care diploma.

Understand the basic principles and practice of advocacy, empowerment and active participation in relation to supporting individuals with learning disabilities and their families
Understand how views and attitudes impact on the lives of individuals with learning disabilities and their family carers
Know how to promote communication with individuals with learning disabilities
Understand the principles and practice of person-centred thinking, planning and reviews
Understand the context within which person-centred thinking and planning takes place
Understand own role in person-centred planning
Apply person-centred thinking in relation to own life
Implement person-centred thinking, planning and reviews 
Understand why effective communication is important in the work setting
Meet the communication and language needs, wishes and preferences of individuals

Assessment Criteria
Learners will be required to complete a workbook to evidence their knowledge for each unit.

Performance also runs through the qualification and therefore observation of practice will take place in the work place.

Learners will also need to produce self-reflective accounts, take part in professional discussions and provide a range of work products.

This will all be assessed by a member of the Unique Training Solutions assessment team and will go through the UTS quality assurance process.

All of the assessment criteria must be met for all of the units to achieve the full qualification.
