Course overview

This course has been developed to provide staff with the knowledge and skills required for them to practice and encourage the use of techniques to keep people moving. Supporting individuals who may have difficulty moving to be more independent will support their well-being and contribute to them feeling involved in their care and support. This course is suitable for all staff working with individuals living in residential, their own homes and supported living services.
This course is delivered using a range of methods and resources including:
Group discussions, small group activities, care and support plans, case studies to complete risk assessments and The Tool Kit: Living well through activity in care homes
This course has been developed and mapped to:

Moving and Handling Operations Regulations 1992
Provision and Use of Working Equipment Regulations 1998
Moving and Positioning
The Care Certificate – Standard 5 Work in a person centred way
and the following QCF unit:

Person Centered Care Planning
Anatomy and the importance of keeping muscles moving
Risk Assessing
Low impact exercises
Small pieces of equipment
Identifying safe and effective independent transfer techniques
Record keeping sheets progress charts

Learning outcomes

State what a person centered care plan is
State the importance of keeping muscles moving
Complete a risk assessment from a case study
Demonstrate two low impact exercises
Describe two small pieces of equipment that can be used
Identifying safe and effective independent transfer techniques
List benefits of record keeping on individual progress charts
