This course has been developed to support Managers to gain a greater understanding of outcome 8 of CQC Essential Standards of Quality and Safety and The Health and Social Care Act 2008 ‘Code of Practice for the Health and Adult Social Care on the Prevention and Control of Infections and Related Guidance’. 
The focus of this course is to gain the skills and knowledge required to promote good practice in the prevention and control of infection whilst working in environments which present risks, such as residential care homes and hospitals.
This course has been developed and mapped to the following QCF units:

Introduction to the ‘Code of Practice for Health and Adult Social Care on the Prevention and Control of Infections and Related Guidance’
Effective management of incidents and risks
Promote the development of effective systems to minimise the risks of infection
Promote and manage in-house systems and practice
Legislation in relation to infection control
Universal procedures
Chain of infection and transmission
Dangerous substances
Disposal of clinical waste
Accident reporting
Reporting of infectious diseases
Risk assessments
Employer and employee responsibilities

Learning outcomes

Understand roles and responsibilities in the prevention and control of infection
State legislation and policies relating to prevention and control of infections
Identify systems and procedures relating to the prevention and control of infections
Understand the importance of risk assessment in relation to the prevention and control of infections
Understand the importance of using personal protective equipment (PPE) in the prevention and control of infections
Understand the importance of good personal hygiene in the prevention and control of infections
Understand how to maintain a clean environment to prevent the spread of infection
Understand the principles and steps of the decontamination process
Understand the importance of good waste management practice in the prevention of the spread of infection
Reduce the spread of infection
