This course has been developed to introduce learners to national and local policies in relation to infection control. The focus of this course is to explore situations faced in everyday work tasks whilst working in environments which present risks, such as residential care homes, hospitals and working within the community in peoples own homes.
This course is delivered using a range of methods and resources including:
Case studies, group discussions, small group activities and DVD clips.

State which legislation and policies relate to prevention and control of infections
Explain systems and procedures relating to the prevention and control of infections
Describe the importance of risk assessment in relation to the prevention and control of infections
Explain the importance of using personal protective equipment (PPE) in the prevention and control of infections
Describe the importance of good personal hygiene in the prevention and control of infections
Explain how to maintain a clean environment to prevent the spread of infection
State the principles and steps of the decontamination process
Explain the importance of good waste management practice in the prevention of the spread of infection
Describe how to reduce the spread of infection
